Two-time Olympian, Dinos legend Tilleman enters CW Hall of Fame
Men's basketball star dominated in pre-three point era
EDMONTON – In 2007, the University of Calgary celebrated its 40th anniversary with an online poll to determine its greatest athlete of all-time.
From a litany of deserving candidates one name emerged: Karl Tilleman.
Monday, Tilleman was announced as the latest inductee into the Canada West Hall of Fame, as his outstanding university and international career was honoured by the conference.
One of the most prolific scorers in Canadian men’s basketball history, Tilleman played guard for the Dinos from 1979 to 84, graduating as their all-time leader with 2,050 points.
In 1982, Tilleman became the first Dino to be named CIAU Player of the Year, an honour he received again the following year.
In 1983 he won gold as a member of Team Canada at the World University Games in Edmonton. He would go on to be a two-time Olympian, representing Canada in men’s basketball at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Games. At the 1988 games he set the Olympic record with 10 three-pointers in a single game, which has been equalled just once since (2012 - Carmelo Anthony).

ABOUT THE CANADA WEST HALL OF FAME
For the last century, organized university sport has been a central part of the student experience at institutions across Western Canada. Beginning with the University of Manitoba capturing the first Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union (WCIAU) men's hockey banner in 1919-20, student-athletes have been competing to reach their full potential in sport and the classroom, while enriching campus life.
To commemorate 100 years of university sport across Western Canada, the Canada West Hall of Fame was created in the spring of 2019, with the first induction class set to be unveiled throughout the 2019-20 season.
